Flight I
1999 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Red ruby colour. On the nose you find cassis, coffee and smoke. Presumably from the barrels. In the mouth its medium bodied with soft tannins, minerals and chocolate. Drinks very well now.
Tasted with pleasure 4 times. 93MP
1988 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Brick red colour, with some cloudiness. Have now started to get some maturity nuances. You find some leather, cedar and herbs on the nose. On the palate you find minerals, herbs and some harsh tannin. Drinkable today but not a big wine. Will it improve? Probably not. Tasted 3 times. 88MP
1987 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Actually looks younger then the 1988. There is still lost of barrels in this one, also smoke, tobacco and minerals. In the mouth you sense slight green tannins. With minerals and herbs. Not that much fresh fruit. Drinkable now. Tasted 3 times. 87MP
Flight II
1975 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Some what closed nose, mostly minerals and red berries. On the palate these red berries comes back, also iodine and minerals. The finish is some what short. This wine will probably dry up totally before the hard tannins have softened enough. Drink up if you have any. Tasted twice.
1970 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Much more approachable then the 1975, here you find cassis on the nose. With leather, chocolate and minerals. There are also some mushrooms. This medium bodied wine still has good grip with fine soft tannins. And a fresh finish and beauty to drink now. Tasted 0nce 94MP
1964 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Nothing to phone your best buddies about, but still drinkable. Light red colour, some minerals and red berries on the nose. In the mouth its light bodied with mostly minerals, some herbs and red berries (almost taste and smells the same) some what one dimensional. Drink up. Tasted once. 70MP
Flight III
1998 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Healthy red ruby colour. Great nose with menthol, herbs, minerals, cassis and smoked ham. On the palate this medium to full bodied wine has great clarity with minerals red/black berries beautifully silky tannins and a fresh finish. Have always loved this wine for its drink ability. Enjoy now or hold for anther 20 years. Drunk/tasted 6 times buy now. 96MP
1996 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Not as dark as remember tasting it last time. More light red ruby now. On the nose there is menthol almost cold? With violets, lead pencil, minerals and red berries. Still some what young on the palate with lots of red berries, dusty tannins (Tuscany roads) and a fresh finish. Think this should be held for another 10 years before drinking with pleasure. Tasted 4 times. 94MP
1995 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Somewhat darker red then the 1996. Like in the 1998 you also find herbs (basil), red berries/black berries and smoked ham. But what’s disturbing me on the palate is the touch of Jack Daniels. This has been more convenient every time tasting this wine. Still it has good balance between tannins and acidity. Should be held for another years in the cellar. Tasted 5 times. 93MP
Flight IV
1986 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Still dark/red ruby colour. Lots of cassis, lingon berries, lead pencil, chocolate, herbs, smoke and salami can be found in its profound nose. In the mouth its balance between tannins and acidity is amazing. So big but still managing to hold grace. So far the best bottle I have had of his wine. Some what confused about this wine. Have been so tight before when tasting it. Now more open. But I suppose it depends of bottle variation. This time to its benefit. Tasted 3 times. 97MP
1982 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Was surprised how developed in colour it was against the 1986. On the nose you can feel some heat, cassis, menthol (not cold) or maybe eucalyptus. And roses like in a Barolo. But on the palate it’s still young! Actually felt younger then the 1986. Despite that the grip is amazing. Great balance between tannins and acidity. Very refreshing. Tasted twice 97MP
1961 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Mature colour, light red with some browning at the edge. Well what can I say, this Viagra is pure silk. Lots of roses, herbs, menthol on the nose. With a great mouth feel. The tannins are perfectly rounded. And the acidity is perfect. So refreshing. Words don’t justify. Herd rumours about that it should have been drunk some years ago, but this one would have held for another 10-15 years. Tasted once 99MP
1959 Château Mouton-Rothschild
Like the 1961 this one is also fully mature. Slightly red/brown. Here you also find roses, menthol, herbs and lead pencil. In the mouth it has great balance, soft smooth tannins and a refreshing finish. Will hold for some more years but my personal taste tells me to drink it up, if would have got any. Tasted once. 97MP
